What the calculator models

■ Request tiers

HTTP API: $1.00/M to 300M, then $0.90/M. REST API: $3.50/M to 333M, $2.80/M to 1B, $2.38/M to 20B, then $1.51/M. WebSocket: $1.00/M messages to 1B, then $0.80/M, plus $0.25 per million connection minutes.

■ Data transfer

Outbound bytes at $0.09/GB, the EC2 internet egress rate for US East. AWS accounts get 100 GB/month free across all services, which the calculator conservatively does not assume is available.

■ Cache (REST only)

All eight provisionable sizes from 0.5 GB at $0.02/hr ($14.60/month) to 237 GB at $3.80/hr ($2,774/month), billed for every hour provisioned, no free tier.

Request fees are tiered: HTTP API costs $1.00 per million for the first 300 million requests/month then $0.90 per million; REST API costs $3.50 per million for the first 333 million, $2.80 per million to 1 billion, $2.38 per million to 20 billion, then $1.51 per million. Data transfer out is $0.09/GB (GB = requests x average payload KB / 1,048,576). REST caches add $0.02 to $3.80 per hour depending on size. All rates are US East (N. Virginia), verified June 2026.

With 10 KB average payloads in US East: HTTP API costs $18.58 ($10.00 in request fees at $1.00/million plus $8.58 for 95.37 GB of data transfer at $0.09/GB). No, it shows full list-price costs so the estimate stays valid after month 12. The AWS free tier gives new accounts 1 million REST calls, 1 million HTTP calls, and 1 million WebSocket messages plus 750,000 connection minutes per month for the first 12 months only, worth about $5.69/month at list rates. Subtract those allowances from the calculator output if your account is under a year old.

Q05.What AWS costs does this calculator exclude?+
CloudWatch logging ($0.50/GB ingested for access and execution logs), AWS WAF rules, Lambda authorizer invocations, AWS PrivateLink fees for private APIs ($0.01 per AZ per hour plus $0.01/GB), multi-region replication, and support plans. These typically add 10 to 50% on top of gateway charges. The calculator covers the three direct API Gateway meters: requests/messages, data transfer out, and dedicated cache.
